With only 5 days to the start of the Premier League season; Martin O’Neills has sensationally quit the Villa! In what must be a massive shock for fans, Villa will now have to find a new manager in double quick time, to stand any chance of keeping Villa’s position near the top of the Premier League.
O’Neill is keeping tight lipped abut the motivation for his resignation, but speculation is rife that the lack of funds in the transfer market is the reason for his departure. Having being backed in the past with the cash; Villa are now balancing the books with a sell to buy policy and the money-men don’t seem to have the same vision as O’Neill. Manchester United took first blood in the race for the Premier League title yesterday, with a deserved win over the Blues of Chelsea.
Many will say that this is a game that doesn’t matter, it’s just another pre-season friendly; but it means much more than that! This was United’s chance to put one over their biggest title rivals; and they did that emphatically yesterday.
Inspired by United legend Scholes and a Rooney, that was different class to his South Africa disappointments; United started the season with a merited 3-1 win. Read the rest of this entry »

The football season is underway and the Championship is off to a cracking start!
It’s the first day of season; so the weekends results might not matter come the end of the season and anything can happen on Day 1.

The season got underway last night, with high flyers Norwich being brought back down to earth with a bump in the 1st game of the season. Canary fans probably won’t be too worried, as they were stuffed 7-1 on the first game off last season, but still romped to the League 1 title.
Will it be more of the same this year? Probably not, but Norwich should finish comfortably in the top half.

The first game of the season is always difficult to bet on; as anything can happen. Clubs are still finding their feet after pre-season and new signings will still be settling in so there are bound to plenty of shock results to upset the weekends betting.

It’s been a long summer without any football (NO; I’ve not forgotten about the world cup - I’ve chosen to erase it from my memory, as I don’t remember England playing any football in South Africa. The less said about that the better).
We’re now back to the serious football season, kicking off on Fridays with Delia’s Norwich City playing hosts to Watford.
Norwich will be hoping for a flying start and fans expectations are running high, after last season’s performances in League 1. Can the Canaries do it again this season? My feeling is that Norwich will be pleased with anything this season, as long as they stay in Championship and can build on this next year; but I’m sure the Norwich faithful will be hoping for more. It’s the last day of the football season in League One tomorrow and automatic promotion to the Championship is balanced on a knife edge.
Norwich secured the title a long time ago, but can you believe that on the last day of the season the second automatic promotion place is still up for grabs by 5 teams.
Leeds are favourites as they are sitting in 2nd place with a 1 point lead and finish the season at home, but the pressure is on so anything could happen. Read the rest of this entry »
