Premier League Preview, Sat 9th May 2009

Only three weeks of football left in the English Premier league and there is still everything to play for at the top and bottom of the table!

Man Unt look to have the title sewn up and a win on Sunday in the local Manchester derby could put an end to Liverpools slim title dreams.

At the bottom end of the table West Brom could be relegated today if they are beaten by Wigan and the other two relegation places could go potentially any team from the bottom 6. Blackburn look safe but a win today would make sure!

Arsenal vs. Chelsea

A big London derby should help these two teams recover from their Champions League disappointment. Both teams will be looking for a good performance to bounce back from their mid-week European exits. This will be a tough game and I expect a draw.

Blackburn vs. Portsmouth

Blackburn needs a win to ensure survival and they will go all out to get the points today. After back to back home wins for Blackburn I expect them to win today against a Portsmouth team who has failed to score in the last 3 games away from home.

Bolton vs. Sunderland

The Black Cats will be desperate for the win to move them closer to safety but I see Bolton taking all 3 points from this game. Sunderland has lost the last 4 away games on the bounce and Bolton thrashed them 4-1 at the Stadium of Light.

Everton vs. Spurs

This will be a close game with both teams doing well this season. Everton beat Spurs in the away leg 1-0 but I expect this game to end in a draw; Spurs have only lost at Goodison Park once in the last 11 visits.

Fulham vs. Villa

Fulham have done well this season under Roy Hodgson and could still clinch a European spot. Villa haven’t been great recently and haven’t won away in the last 4 trips; Fulhams home advantage should be enough to get the win today.

Hull vs. Stoke

Another must win game; Phil Brown needs to inspire his team to a win today or they could find themselves in the bottom 3 at the end of the weekend. After such a good start to the season Hull are now in serious trouble! With only 3 home wins from 17 Hull may struggle today – this one could end in a draw which might not be good enough for Hull.

Man Utd vs. Man City

World Champions vs. Worlds richest football team! On paper this game looks likely to be a great game of football and on the back of 4 wins on the bounce; City will be hoping to take something from this game.

United are hitting their top form at just the right time though and I expect them to take all 3 points. United have only lost once at home this season and that shouldn’t change today.

Newcastle vs. Middlesbrough

Both teams need the win to move closer to safety; this will be an explosive North East derby. Boro’s away form is appalling and they have lost the last 10 away games on the bounce; I think Shearers team could get the 3 points today and give the Toon Army something to cheer about.

West Brom vs. Wigan

Will today be the end of West Broms Premiership season; a Wigan win will send the Baggies down. I think the Baggies will live to fight another day and after their 3-0 thrashing of Sunderland at the Hawthorns I think home advantage will win the day.

West Ham vs. Liverpool

Liverpool could go back to the top of the League with a win today; they won’t stay top for long but it will keep their title hopes alive. Liverpool have won the last 3 away games on the bounce and I expect them to make it four today.

Premier League Football Bet of the Week

This week I am having a relegation treble special on a Newcastle/West Brom win and Hull to draw @ 15/1 from Sky Bet. It’s a bit of a long shot but anything can happen in the relegation dog-fight!

I said it was a long shot, but my relegation treble would have paid off if Hull hadn’t let me down on Saturday! If Hull had nicked another goal at the end I would have been quids in; but another defeat saw them slip closer to the Championship.

After Newcastle’s excellent win last night Hull are in the bottom 3 for the first time this season.
