Premier League Football, Saturday 16th May
May 16th, 2009 by Bob
Will today be the day Man United clinch their 11th Premier League title today against the Gunners? They only need a point to take the trophy in front of their home fans and I’m sure that they can do enough to get the win today and end Liverpool’s title dreams.
At the other end of the table, Newcastle’s mid-week win against Boro took them out of the bottom 3 and Shearer will be looking for the same again today against Fulham. A win could be enough to see them safe; but Fulham will be a difficult team to beat. Hull, Boro and West Brom will be hoping the Toon slip up today.
Bolton vs Hull
A must win game for Hull but you cannot see them taking the points here. Phil Browns Hull City has only won once in the last 6 months and have lost the last 4 away games on the bounce. I think the best they can hope for today is the draw and that probably isn’t enough for Hull.
Chelsea vs Blackburn
Blackburn are now safe so don’t have a lot to play for. They have lost their last 4 away games and Chelsea should make that 5 in a row today. Chelsea are undefeated in last 10 home games so it looks like an easy win for the blues.
Everton vs West Ham
This will be a tough game but Everton’s home advantage should be enough to get the win. The Toffee’s beat West Ham 3-1 in away leg this season; I expect fewer goals today but Everton should be OK.
Man Unt vs Arsenal
Will United lift the trophy today in front of old rivals Arsenal? The Man Unt players will be up for this game and I think they will get the win. Arsenal are a good team but have been poor defensively of late and United’s strikers have hit their form at just the right time. The title will return to Old Trafford before the end of the day.
Middlesbrough vs Villa
Another must win game at the bottom of the table. Losing today could see Boro playing Championship football next season. Villa’s away form isn’t great at the moment and Middlesborough could take the win to keep their survival hopes alive.
Newcastle vs Fulham
Shearer has started Newcastle’s flight to safety after a much needed mid-week win against local rivals Middlesboro. A win against Fulham today will inch them closer to Premiership survival. It won’t be easy against a tough Fulham side but I think Newcastle could get something today.
Portsmouth vs Sunderland
This looks like a low scoring game; Sunderland have failed to score in their last 6 away trips and Portsmouth have failed to score in last 4. Portsmouth should do enough to take the 3 points; I think they will nick it by a single goal.
Stoke vs Wigan
Stoke will be looking at ending their season on a high in front of home fans; after their excellent home form this season has kept them in the Premier League. Stoke have only lost 4 times at home this season and that won’t change today. I predict a Stoke win today against a Wigan side that have lost their last 3 away games.
Tottenham vs Man City
On paper this looks like an easy home win for Spurs but Man City are unpredictable of late. Spurs are undefeated in the last 10 home games and have won the last 5 games on the bounce. City’s away form is poor and they have only won twice away from home this season. I’m going for a Spurs home win.
West Brom vs Liverpool
Liverpool’s title dreams could be over by the time this game kicks off but I still expect them to beat West Brom; even if they are only playing for pride. Liverpool beat West Brom 3-0 in home leg this season and I expect Liverpool will score at least two on Sunday.
Premier League Football Bet of the Week
My bet this week is a treble on Liverpool, Chelsea and Stoke wins @ 3/1 from Sky Bet.
What are your Premier League football bets for the weekend?

A good win for me this weekend; Liverpool and Chelsea were pretty much bankers but Stoke did the business for me as well and got me a good win!
