Premier League Preview, Saturday 2nd May
May 2nd, 2009 by Bob
This weekend sees another big weekend of football in the English Premier League at both ends of the table!
Liverpool need to keep the pressure on United with a win against Shearer’s Newcastle and Rafa will be hoping Middlesbrough can get a shock result against Man Unt.
At the bottom end of the table Boro, Hull, Newcastle and West Brom all have difficult games and I would be surprised to see any of them picking up the full three points this week.
Aston Villa vs Hull
Villa haven’t been playing well of late and have only claimed 3 points from a possible 15 in their last 5 home games. That poor run of form could change today with victory against a Hull side that have lost the last 3 away games on the bounce.
Chelsea vs Fulham
This will be a difficult game for Hiddinks Chelsea side as Fulham are doing well this season under Roy Hodgson. Chelsea are undefeated at home in their last 9 home games in the Premier League but Fulham will be no pushover; this one could end in a draw.
Liverpool vs Newcastle
Shearer’s team desperately needs a win but I don’t think they will get anything out of this one; especially with Gerrard fit and raring to go. 3 points are Liverpool’s for the taking and they need the win to keep the pressure on Man Unt. Liverpool haven’t lost at home this season so don’t expect that to change today!
Man City vs Blackburn
Man City are strong at home and like to score goals and I expect them to bag a couple against Hughes old team today. Blackburn are on a losing streak away from home, losing 3 on the trot. Man City should make that 4 on the bounce after today’s games.
Middlesbrough vs Man Utd
Boro are doing well at home and are undefeated in the last 7 home games. They also play well against the bigger clubs and shocked Liverpool on their visit in February. It will be a tough game for United but they should get the 3 points they need.
Portsmouth vs Arsenal
Arsenal are playing well at the moment but have struggled against Portsmouth in the past. Expect a tight game against a Portsmouth side that are undefeated in last 3 home games.
Stoke vs West Ham
Stoke’s home form this season has almost certainly guaranteed their survival and they are undefeated at home in 7 games. I expect a tight game with not many goals.
Sunderland vs Everton
Sunderland need a win to move away from the relegation zone but will find it tough against a strong Everton team. Everton haven’t won away from home in last 5 games; I expect a tight game which could end in a draw.
Tottenham vs West Brom
Spurs have won their last four home games on the bounce without conceding. Should be a convincing win against a West Brom side that have lost over 70% of away games this season.
I expect Tottenham to score at least 2 goals against a West Brom side that are almost certain to be relegated.
Wigan vs Bolton
Bolton away form this season is poor; they haven’t won in 10 away trips. This will be a tough local derby but with nothing to play for except local pride I expect Wigan to nick it; maybe 1-0.

A good win for me on my Premier League treble this week with all my Premier League teams winning!
Peterborough and Sheff Unt let me down in my other 2 bets but I can’t complain after ending the weekend up.
It will be a tough weekend of betting next week with the play-offs starting as it is incredibly difficult to predict what will happen in these games; every game is like a cup final and anyone could win.
